In this course, it has taught me that culture is more than just the outside, “When early childhood’s educators think about culture, they think the surface things that are easy to see taste and define.” (Derman-sparks L and Olsen Edwards J.). After this week reading and videos, I have learned more about culture and diversity than I ever knew before. I have a greater understanding so that I can help all of my parents. I am advocate that all teachers take a course in diversity. This course has given me such a greater insight about others and their perspective and how they live.

Arthurine:
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post. It is funny how people define Diversity, almost everyone included the word "different" or not the same. I think you are right when you mentioned that this class has expanded your beliefs on culture and diversity. Now, for me, I have to put this all to practice in the classroom.
Hello Arthurine,
ReplyDeleteI agree that educators should take a diversity course. Before I took this course, I had a surface defintion of culture. It is much more complicated than I knew. My understanding is deeper. When I interviewed the different people about diversity and culture, they all had very similar answers. I am using the information I have learned about diversity and applying it to the relationships I am building with the families.
