Topic for simulation: How does parents language skills affect their children language skills.
When I thought about a topic that interested me I thought about language development in children ages 3-5. I feel that this is a crucial time to engage children in language skills and to help me acquire language skills at a early stage. Children need language to communicate with others but need the help of others to acquire the skills. babies are born without language, they learn to communicate by listening to the world around them. Parents can help their children learn and develop language from the earliest days with games and books. I encourage parent to start reading to their children as early as possible. Language development includes opportunities for social understanding, for learning about the world, for sharing experience with adults and other children.
This week research chart helped me do a literature review that will include resource to help both teachers and parents. I am learning how to use the terminology about research will be enable me do a better job a conducting research. The literature review was sort of hard for me but as I do more research I learn what was including in the literature review.
I would like to ask my colleagues if they have any insight or resources to offer on language skills in children ages 3-5 that will benefit my simulation. Thank for sharing any information on this topic. I look forward to any information you can share.
What an interesting topic! I did find one article on the website--http://depts.washington.edu/isei/iyc/kaiser_16_1.pdf
ReplyDeleteYou might also think about poor, middle class, wealthy parents in looking for research. Here is one article I found regarding poor families and literacy---Poor children a year behind in language skills | Education | guardian ...

There are probably some additional articles on the Office of Head Start website--eclkc.ohs.acf.hhs.gov
I will be interested in reading about your discoveries once your research is complete.
This is a great topic! I think that language is so important. It is always a struggle when you have different cultures involved but it saddens me that even children who come from English speaking homes still have a struggle with speaking. Parents have to be so careful about the way they speak in front of their children. Children are like sponges, they suck up everything and if we use bad language when we talk to them they will begin to speak like that. This is a great topic. I look forward to hearing more information about this topic.
